Playing the role of a title character in any show is daunting, even for the most professional of actors, so imagine being told you are going to play the protagonist of a show at just 10 years of age.
So imagine the emotions experienced by young Toby Abbott, 10, when he was told that he had been chosen to play orphan Oliver in the show of the same name; Excitement, nerves, worry about the sheer number of lines he’ll have to learn! But Toby was able to fight off stiff competition with a beautiful performance of “Where Is Love?”, and then the decision was made by director Ben Ireson to select Toby to be his Oliver.
Musical Theatre is something which has always played an important role in the Abbott household, which has recently been shown when Toby’s parents Nic and Tracey received their NODA 10 year Award. So it was obvious that Toby would follow in their footsteps and onto the stage, which he has been for the past few years.
Toby is currently a member of both Knutsford Musical Theatre Company, with whom he has been selected for the role, and Knutsford Musical Youth Theatre who he will hopefully be performing with in their Christmas showing of Roald Dahl’s Snow White.
